GERMAN SHIPPING SUBSIDY.

The Federal Council has sanctioned a Bill increasing the subsidy to the North German Lloyd Company, by £25,000, in return for which the Company will resume the New Guiuea-Singapore route with fresh ports of call by means of a monthly service from Sydney to New Guinea, Hong Kong and -Japan, calling at Yap in the Caroline group. The preamble of the Bill states that a general ten per cent ad valorem duly will shortly be introduced in New Guinea the Bismarck Archipelago and the Carolines.
