SOUTH AFRICA.

Press Association —CopATight. Received April 29, 11.50 p.m. Capetown, April 29,

An influential deputation, including many members of Parliament, waited on the Colonial Secretary at Capetown to protest against* the proposed disbandment of the naval volunteers. Messrs Sprigg, Schriener, and Smart suggested that the Admiralty should consent to defray the cost from the Colony’s contribution to the Royal Navy. Mr Dewall disclaimed any intention to weaken the tie with the Motherland, and promised to consider the suggestion, but the Ministry was bound to reduce the expenditure to a million.
