SLUGGISH RIVER DRAINAGE BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Sluggish River Drainage Board was held at the Board’s office on Monday. Present: Trustees G. Kendall (chairman), A. B. Hocken, G. Wilton, and J. Tennant.

It was decided to agree to the selection of Mr John Reid as Commissioner to hoar and determine the amalgamation scheme suggested by the Horseshoe Drainage Board. Mr Simpson’s offer to deliver piles for river protection at Mr Lucas’s for 9s each was accepted, subject to the Engineer submitting plans for the proposed groyne to'the owners.

The clearing of the lower end of the main drain was let to Mr Parlane at 5s lOd, and No. 6 drain at 2s 5d per chain.

It was decided to grant Messrs Duncan and Saunders permission to connect a drain from their properties through Mr Hocken’s land and along McLennan’s road to the main drain. It was resolved that the Board borrow from its bankers, the Bank of New Zealand, from time to time as required by way of overdraft, any sum not exceeding the amount of the legal borrowing limit.
