ADongine ... o * RACING CLUBS AND THE BOOKMAKERS. Auckland, April 25). The Hou. Mitchelson, president of Auckland Racing Club, replying to remarks made by the Rev. J. J. North criticising the action of Racing Clubs in regard to the Gaming Act, said the Auckland Club took the iniatitive in preventing bookmakers from plying on the racecourse two years ago, and they would welcome an amendment wiping out the,'.book makers altogether. So far as he knew no credit betting was done at Ellerslie. If it existed it was at the tote proprietor’s own risk. So far as he knew no racing stable was owned by any member of the A.R.O. He agreed with Rev. North in regard to the suppression [of totalisator clubs and restricting tote clubs and proprietory racing. ■
