ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Gisborne, April IS. A sudden death occurred at a local dental surgery this afternoon, when Mrs J. B. Hollier expired whilst under chloroform prior to a dental operation. Deceased, who was about 42 years of age, was examined prior to the administration of the antesthetic by Dr. Collins in the presence of Mr Crawford, the dentist, and. Mrs Lucas, and in the opinion of’the doctor the deceased was a fit for chloroform. A few secondsafter the administration of the chloroform the doctor noted that the pupils of the eyes were dilated, and other indications of heart failure' were apparent. He at once applied restorative measures. The patient; recovered a little, but almost immediately collapsed. Death is attributed to heart failure. An inquest will he hold. Auckland, April 16. A seven year old girl, named Barbara Becher, while playing with others in empty trucks at Ahuroa, fell on the rails, and the wheel of a truck passed over her leg. The child was sent by special train to Auckland hospital, but died on the journey. ______________
