FOOTBALL.
A scratch football match was played on the Feilding racecourse on Saturday afternoon between teams from the Kia Toas (Palmerston) and the Feilding Club. Ongley captained the Feilding men and Stalker the [Palmerston men. Feilding kicked off and for the first half of the game played against the wind which resulted in nearly all the play during the first spell being confined to Feildfug’s end of the ground. Rout, the Feilding vice-captain potted within five minutes of the time of starting play. The game was pretty even for a time and subsequently a Kia Toa obtained a try, which was neatly converted. In the second spell Kia Toas had somewhat the best of the game, and shortly after starting registered another try, but failed to convert. The play became more open then and a scrum took place, from which Ongley passed the ball out to Trevena, who registered another try. Ongley failed to convert and the game ended—Kia Toas 14, Feilding 7. Mr W. H. McLean wasfreferee and carried out his duties satisfactorily.
