MARTON ASSESSMENT COURT.
Sir,—Since the report (the accuracy of which is not disputed) in your Friday’s issue of the- proceedings of the above Court, Mr Hedges aud Mr Ladley, who kindly gave evidence in my behalf, have requested me in writing to take steps to make it clear that such Evidence was correct. Will you . permit me to say that I am sure those who know either of the gentlemen named would accept their bare word without doubt. I have, however, had a conversation , with the Borough valuer, aud have submitted him this present letter. He allows me to state that he had no iuea of alleging that either Mr Hodges or Mr Ladley did not speak the exact truth and that if he said anything which seemed to impute the contrary with as a mistake.—l am, etc., E. O. WILSON. Marten, 11th April, 1908. [We have seen the valuer, who informs us that he evidently in his evidence failed to make it clear that he only intended to refer to the alterations from pencil to ink, which were all made before loth February, and not to any minor alterations made subsequently, aud to which the witnesses evidently referred. This explanation of course makes it clear that tliere was no real conflict between the evidence of the valuer and the witnesses.—Ed.]
