A meeting of Marton Poultry Association will be held this evening. A full attendance of members is requested as the question of holding the annual show will be brought forward. Exports from Picton and Wairau Harbours for the fyear ended 31st March, 1908, were valued at £826,910, compared with £318,224 in the preceding year. Blackball remains qujet and nothing fresh in connection with the strike has occurred. Dunedin Competitions Society has appointed judges for the coming festival as follows-Instru-mental, concerted and vocal music, F. L. Peck, Wanganui; elocution and solo singing, C. N. Babyertz; essay, W. J. Morrell; scripture essay. Dr. Nisbet; original poem. Dr. Waddell; story without words, P. J. Blackman. The memorial chancel and organ were opened at the Church of Nativity, Blenheim, last evening, Mr Robert Parker giving a recital on the instrument. The chancel is in memory of the late “Parson” Batt, first vArchdaacongin Marlborough. The organ was donated as a memorial of the late Thomas Carter at one time g.uiierintendent of the province by his widow. After the case of Pikirangi versus the East gCoast Commissioner, now being argued in the Appeal Court, the case of Bruce versus the Wanganui Education Board will be taken, then the case of Donnelly versus Meinerhitzhagen (Napier) ollows. The Court will not sit during the Easter vacation from the 16th to 26th and the cases fixed will probably occupy the Court until the vacation.
Members of Marten Y.M.8.0. and a number of friend;- met at Mr T, White’s house this week and presented him with a silver-mounted inkstand as a mark of esteem and appreciation. Mr White, who is leaving for Wellington shortly, has been leader of the Society at Marten for a considerable time. Songs and recitations were given and altogether a very pleasnat evening was spent. The extraordinary character of some of onr labour awards was again demonstrated by a case before the Arbitration Court yesterday. The Wellington painter?, award included a provision for preference to Unionists, and provided that all journey men who were not members of the Union must join within 14 days. A signwriter employed by Messrs Tingey was proceeded against for not having joined the Union, and though not fined waa ordered to become a member within 14 days and to pay costs. JAUNDICE.
