Press Association. Palmerston N., April 6. Miss Martha Jones, who was seriously injured in the melee 'of cabs and other vehicles—which occurred on Saturday night—succumbed to her injuries to-day. * The lady was a resident of New Plymouth and was breaking her journey from Wellington to that city by staying with friends in Palmerston. A preliminary inquiry will be held to-morrow morning, but the ‘inquest proper will be delayed for some days to enable further .inquiries to be made.

Wellington, April 6. At the inquest at Petoue, held this afternoon, on the body of Murdoch Gillies, killed by a motor-car yesterday, the jury found a verdict that the deceased was killed by being run over by a motor-car, and'the chaffeur did all in his power to avert the fatality. Greymonth, April 6. The news was received in town tonight of a distressing drowning fatality at Ahaura, whereby Mr and Mrs James Doolan, of Slatey Creek, were drowned. Deceased attended a funeral at Nelson Creek, and left Ahaura at 5 o’clock to cross the Ahaura River. Both were on one horse, and in fording the river must have been swept off. A boat half a mile lower down was conveying passengers across, when the body of the woman was noticed floating down. It was secured and brought to the shore, hut life was extinct. The body of the husband was recovered higher up the stream. Deceased leave eight young children, the eldest being 13 years of age. Doolan was a settler at Slatey Creek, Moonlight,
