FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting was held last night. Present —Ors. Goodbehere (Chairman), Fitzberbert. West, Darragh, Cobbe, Richmond and Bramwell.

Leave of absence was given to the Mayor and Or. Atkinson. The Engineer reported having had a quotation for a combined road roller and traction engine at £750, which he considered cheap. He had been asked by the Beautifying Society to put a water service across to the pond in South Street reserve. The cost of the work would be £B. In reference to the report he had been asked to furnish in regard to his work, he stated that the number of callers at his office was from 123 to 156 per month. He gave a lengthy report of the several works he had been engaged on since his appointment.

The poundkeeper reported that B 8 horses and 16 cows had been impounded from within the borough, and a total of 107 animals including those impounded from outside the borough. The manager of the abattoirs reported that 129 cattle, 3 calves, 361 sheep, 69 lambs and 55 pigs had been slaughtered ; 4 animals had been condemned. The fees amounted to £79 11s 9d. '

The Health Officer reported that no case of infectious disease had been notified during the mouth, but there had been one death from phthisis. He had found it necessary to request some persons to cease accumulating rubbish about their places. The report of the water and light committee, which-, was opposed to the raising of the hydrants, suggesting that the Fire Board could obviate any trouble by obtaining stand pipes, was adopted. In regard to the suggested purchase of a road roller, the matter was deferred until the estimates were considered and the portion of the engineers’ report in regard to the work he had been engaged in was referred to the staff committee.
