JUDGE KETTLE.
ON CORPORAL PUNISHMENT,
Press Association,
Auckland, April 1. Mr Kettle, S.M., in giving reserved judgment to-day in the case of two boys who had broken into and damaged three motor jachts, said he regretted having to order a whipping for the first time, but juvenile crime was becoming so frequent that rigorous steps must be taken. Things were going so far with young people in the Dominion that unless the Courts reverted to some drastic methods juvenile crime would become alarmingly common. He sentenced both boys to twelve strokes with the birch to be delivered by a contsable.
