PROPOSED MARTON HARRIER CLUB.
SIR.—It has been suggested by several of our hockey and football / enthusiasts that a club—which shall / be styled as above—be formed for the purpose of advancing sport generally in Mar ton. There has been a distinct lack of interest in both these games due chiefly to the want of combination, and, I believe that if those desirous of becoming warm supporters of one or the other of our winter games, were able to make themselves physically fit without that irksomeness that is usually attached to individual / training, then a great deal would have been done towards this But this is only one of its advantages. Many young men have not the constitution to play a hard game of either football or hockey, and they would derive a distinct benefit from the steady exercise which the Harrier Club holds out to them. Objections have been put forward that the place is not large enough to support three distinct branches of sport, and that the forming of a Harrier Club will tend to undermine the clubs now formed by drawing on their members. On the contrary, it will make them by keeping up enthusiasm in athletics, as most of the members will feel that they fife training with an object, that object, being their nearest Wednesday >£of - ■ Saturday match. Great encourager? ■ ment has been given by all to whoh|‘ the suggestion of forming a club hasT been made and there is every indi-;f ■ cation that it will be well supported. - The entrance fee should be nominal as the expenses are practically nil. ■■■■; A meeting will be convened either at the end of this week or early in next, and those that are desirous of helping should not sit down to await development, but come along and give it their strenuous support.,—l am, etc.,
