WORLD’S CHAMPION EATER.

Sanlt Ste. Marie (Mich., U.S.A.) March 1. After winning a bet of £2 by eating a meal of enormous proportions, Joe Sheets, a farm hand employed by Henry Brassel, near Manistique, has issued a challenge to meet any man in the upper Peninsula of Michigan in a contest, the one who eats the most in a given time to take the money. Sheets’ latest feat in the eating line has attracted widespread attention. The first article on the menu was three pound of sauerkraut, followed by two 10-cent loaves of bread two pounds of potatoes, three cups of tea, two glasses of beer, sis cups of water, and a pound and a half of steak. After devouring these, Sheets ate three dozen fried eggs in less than fiften minutes, and said he was ready to eat as many more in the same‘length of time, offering to back his claim by a bet of £lO. He could find no takers.

Sheets makes a speciality of eating fried eggs, and his friends believe that if lie would confine himself to in his contests, he could eat 100 iaside of an hour.
