ASSAULT BY A JOCKEY. A LENIENT COMMITTEE. Press Association. Auckland. March 20. At the Manaia Club’s Races one of the riders struck the jockey ou the winning horse in the run home, using the brass knob on the end of his whip. The injured 1 ' man succeeded in winning, and dismounted with blood pouring from two gashes just above the temple. Had the blow fallen an inch lower the consequences must have been serious. The stewards wished to disqualify the offender for three years, but at the request of the other jockey only debarred him for the rest of the meeting.
