FEILDING CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

Last night a special meeting of the Feilding Chamber of Commerce was held, to consider what steps should be taken in respect to the rumour that the Railway Department had drawn a time table of through trains, to bo run between Wellington and Auckland, and that Feilding was not to be a stopping place. The Chairman, Mr A. H. Atkinson, said, if the rumour was correct it was necessary to take immediate action There was not a town on the whole route, considering the large area connect 'd with it, that had a better claim for the best possible service from the railway. Mr Oarty pointed out that Wellington were not the only places to be considered. As a matter of fact much of the passenger traffic from this district would bo to Rotorua and other localities in the north, and by people who could not now go by sea; and to put those people to inconvenience and compel them to change trains, would be to refuse to them the benefits of the line.

Mr J. Oobbe pointed out that the census of the town population gave an erroneous idea as to its size, as a large proportion of the people, really of the town, were residing outside of the Borough boundaries. After a considerable amount of discussion it was resolved that the member for the district, Mr F. Y. Lethbridge, ascertain as quickly as possible the truth or otherwise of the report, and that the meeting be adjourned for a week to receive the reply. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Kimbolton Railway League, requesting the Chamber to appoint delegates to form part of the delegation to meet the Minister of Railways, on his anticipated visit.— Messrs G. W. Bramwell and F. Pirani had previously been appointed to represent the Chamber in the matter.
