ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Press Association, Wellington, March 18. A" ‘ young man named Gerard Heaton was kicked by a horse in a paddock in the Hutt Valley and died from his injuries. George Reid, iji married man, 39 years of'age, fall down a stairway while working at his trade as a plumber at Newtown to-day. He is now in the hospital, being treated for severe injury to„thegspine.
CATASTROPHE AT TAONUI,
A fatal explosion is reported to have taken place at Taouui. A man who was passing a whare near the station noticed that the chimney was down and the side of the house demolished. On entering the building lie was horrified to find the remains of a man who had apparently been blown to pieces. It is supposed that the victim , was a man named George Hasse, #ho was working,for Bailey Bros., Kawhatau. Stumping was going on aud it seems probable that some accident occurred through careless handling of dynamite. Later.
The correct name of the victim is Fred Haase, aged 26. The deed was premeditated, as a letter was left t by Haase stating that he meant to commit suicide owing to false charges having been made against him. The explosive did its work so thoroughly that the body was blown into a thousand pieces.
