COMPENSATION COURT.

THE OULVERDEN ESTATE. Per Press Association. Christchurch, March 16. The proceedings in connection with the compulsory acquisition of the Oulverden Estate opened to-day before the Compensation Court, of which Mr Justice Denniaton sat as President, with Mr W. Macfarlane for the trustees, and Mr J. Rennie for the Crown. The assessors’ claim for compensation was made by Edward Oaphas, John Stevens, and Ronald Mclntosh McDonald, as trustees under the will of the late Sir John Cracroft Wilson, in respect of the Cnlverden estate, intended to be taken compulsorily by the Crown under the Lands for Settlement Consolidation Act, 1900. The whole block, which is being acquired by the Government, comprises 25,255 acres, and the total amount of the claim is £162,037. Mr T. Stringer, K. 0., with Mr T. G. Russell, appeared for the claimants, and Mr D. M. Findlay, with Mr J. A. Cassidy for the Crown. Evidence was given by several witnesses in support of the claim.
