MARTON SPORTS.

The Marton Band have generously donated their services to the Athletic Club, aud will discourse bright music ou the Park, and also play outside the Theatre at night. The amateur running events will bring forth some of Wanganui’s best peds, whilst Mar con will produce its quota, which should provide interesting contests.

F. McDonald’s handicaps were omitted from the cycle events at Marton They, are:—Half-mile, 60 yards; Oue Mile, 120: Two Mile, 240; Five Miles, 500 yards. It is notified that afternoon tea aud refreshments at town prices can bo obtained at the Marton Sports on tiie Park to-morrow. Entries are still being received fertile jumping contests, the pony event bringing forth a good field. Entries close on the ground an hour before each event. A neat correct card has been issued, giving times of all events aud beats which will be strictly adhered to. TTY g^ynig3 The'appearance"of AT E. *Parkes, A. Birch, F. Wells, and R. Jones in the bike events should create good racing. The trophies for the'•(amateur events are : —Two gold medals, gold sovereign case, travelling clock, two sets military brushes, gold bracelet, field glasses, and travelling case. The donors are: Dr. Skorman, Mrs P. Wotton, and Messrs G. W. Lawrence, W. Ward, G, T. Avery, F. Mercer, and “A Friend,” whilst Mr Bornhold has presented the gold medals for the Fire Brigade event, which has brought forth three teams from the local brigade. There is every appearance of a bumper house being recorded at the entertainment to be given at the Opera House to-morrow night under the auspices of the Marton Athletic Club. The programme as it appears on the eighth page is a long and varied one, and introduces to the public new singers, besides old favourites, the whole arrangement being quite original and entertaining:.
