The abundance of local grapes obtained by the fine season and the large demand and good prices ruling despite the Australian importations have induced Auckland growers to place many large quantities on the market which otherwise would Ehave been converted into wine. Some splendi’d samples arc been sold retail at sixpence per pound. A fine crop of Golden Ohassclas from the Government farm at Wairauga sold at 4>£d to s>£d per pound at auction, while the ~ South Australian grapes only brought os to 7s per 30 pound case.
