SLUGGISH RIVER DRAINAGE BOARD.
Tho above Board met yesterday. Present: Trustees Kendall (chairman), Gray, Tennant, and Hooker. Mr Kale’s tender was accepted for contract No. 33. Fresh tenders arc to be called for the others.
Correspondence, was received 'from the Horseshoe Land Drainage Board stating that after the failure of the negotiations with the Board concerning tiie formation of the two drainage districts into a limited district, his Board had applied to the Minister of Internal Affairs for a commission to decide the question between the two Boards, and submitting the names of Messrs J. G. Wilson and John Reid as suitable peisons to be appointed a commission.
Enclosed with the above was a letter from the office, of the Minister of Internal Affairs, asking whether the two Boards concerned were prepared to make a joint recommendation of the name of one or more suitable persons to make inquiry and report as to forming the said Drainage Districts into a united district under section 15 of “The Land Drainage Act, 1904.” The cost of such commission would be payable by the Boards in such proportion as the commissioners might order. It was resolved to, appoint Mr Rutherford in place of Mr Wilson, with Mr Reid, as commissioners to hold the inquiry. Mrs Slack’s request to be allowed to deepen the drain through her section was approved. It was decided to take legal action against a number of defaulters for payment of rates. Accounts totalling £5lO 8s were passed for payment.
