“PIONEER” IN REPLY.

SIR.—I am pleased to notice in Thursday’s paper that one farmer is interested in-the coming election. I don’t pretend to know Mr Marshall’s ideas on any political matters. But I will say it is nearly time we had something conservative introduced into our politics. We, have had 15 years of socialism and who is benefited? Not the farmer,, not any bona fide working man, but. only agitators and professional politicians, Living is dearer, rates and taxes no lower, and there is con-; tinual nnrest between the employers and employees. “Farmer” says we want a progressive man. -I think we want a spall badly. We could do without any fresh legislation for 10 years. We have had a so-called pro gressive Ministry for 15 years, and our national debt has risen from 39 millions to something over 60, Surely that is progress that should stop. Prohibition is not a party matter and any party in power would be compelled to carry out any needed reform. I don’t think any fresh prohibition legislation needed at present; every man and woman can vote on the matter without any party feeling, and I think that all any reasonable person can expect. I am, etc., PIONEER.
