SHOOTING.
TRENTHAM MEETING. Per Press Association. ■ ■ Wellington, March 10. To-day was an easy shooting day for many of the competitors, as after completing the’ 1000yds of the Canterbury Match and Snap and Cover Matches, service teams events were taken in the afternoon. Shooting opened in dull heavy weather, which shortly afterwards turned to slight drizzling rain. Much interest centred in the 1000 yards, as it would decide the fifty to fire in the Championship to-morrow afternoon. The highest scores at the range were Morgan (Auckland) 45, Marenzi (Eketahuna) 43, McMurray (Napier), Muggridge (Palmerston North), Sergeant Sraaill 43. The shooting by the leaders was closely followed. Hyde going down early when there was an absence of wind, hnt had light, put up 39, as did Randell (Linton). Collett had to make 27 to keep his place. Firing in the worst of weather, with (a puffy wind and bad light, lie made only 16, and Evans, the second in the list, iu equally bad weather, made 23. Timbrel! had a peculiar shoot, as after getting misses with his first two shots he registered bull’s eyes with his next seven, and finished with a miss with the last, beaten by the wind. Bairstow put in 30, which dropped him one place, as follows:—Randell 403, Hyde 401, Kitchen and Timbrell 899, Bairstow 398.
