HALCOMBE.
A SERIOUS ACCIDENT
From Our Own Correspondent,
One[of the most serious accidents that has marked the history of Holcombe occurred hero yesterday, at 5 p.m.. Mrs W. Williams with her sister Mrs Murphy together with four young children were driving from the railway station to the town when the horse, a new purchase, got out of hand, and whoa endeavouring to negotiate the always dangerous corner at the railway crossing near Mr Flemmig’s store, the gig turned over and its living contents were hurled down the embankment —soon there were many would-be helpers on the spot, and it was found that two of the late occupants of the conveyance were seriously hurt. ■ Dr Willis was at once summoned from Reikling, and was quickly in attendance, aud he found that Mrs Williams had a fractured thigh aud the little daughter of Mrs Murphy a broken leg. Pad enough unquestionably, but seeing the position aud the speed at which the horse was travelling the wonder is that there was no fatality to record. Much sympathy is felt for the victims, who, I am pleased to add, are doing as well as can be expected. What impressed me as I viewed the distressing scene was the fact that though all were anxious to do their best, there was no one present that understood how best to render first aid, certainly I confess that ray education in this direction has been sadly neglected.
