THE PREMIER’S TOUR.
ANOTHER SPEECH. Per Press Association. Auckland, March 9. On Saturday evening Sir Joseph Ward gave an "address at Ouehunga. Referring to financial matters he stated that it was a fallacy to consider that New Zealand was heavily taxed. The average wealth per head was £347 the highest in the world. As to indebtedness the calculation of debt per head was valueless as Government owned large areas of land, the money to buy which had been borrowed. The only increase of taxaion in the last ten years was the graduated tax on properties valued at over £400,00. The Premier quoted the figures used before showiug the concessions made during the period in railway, postal and other charges. The Premier concluded that Government was pledged to country and town as a whole, to make the conditions so that the sons or daughters of the poorest would be on conditions equal to the sons or daughters of the richest in the country in getting about or on the land.
