Press Association. —Copyright, London, March 7, In the House of Commons a Bill was introduced by Mr Henry Walker to enable County Councils, except that of London, to relegate to local Education Committees the duties connected with elementary education. The Bill was read a second time by 196 to 58.
THE LICENSING BILL. MEETING AT BEEROPOLIS. Received March 9, 9.30 a.m. .'London, March B._ A mass meeting marked by great enthusiasm was held at Burton-on-Trent to consider the Licensing Bill. Lord Burton declared that the Bill would entail absolute ruin to Burton aud other towns. In connection with the brewery at Burton his own firm stood to lose two million sterling invested in licensed houses upon mortgages. The creation of a sinking fund would mean that share-holders-would receive no dividends.
