AWAHURI.
From Our Own Correspondent. The rain of the past two days has been of great value to this district. The grass is showing quite a bright tint so the dairymen are in hopes that their supply of milk for March will be mucli improved. The committee of St. Patrick’s Sports are also in great joy as the rain has settled the cycle and running track, aud by the 17th it is expected they will have the best grounds for sports in the district. Mr R. T. Sanson has been on the grounds with his team of horses for the past four days and has done good work for the club. Too much praise cannot be given him for the time and energy he has spent in preparing the grounds. A number of cyclists have already been ou the track and pronounced it “Al. ” Tho Secretary, Mr Rogers, is kept quite busy iu receiving nominations, which are to close to-morrow, but all horse events are due on the 12th.
Mr W, F. Phillips has leased his farm at Awahuri to, Mr Moore, of Cheltenham, who is expected to erect a house aud take possession at an early date. The Presbyterian Sunday School teachers gave their classes a very enjoyable picnic yesterday when there were about 130 children present. Racing and games wore carried out during the day aud in the evening the Rev. Budd distributed the prizes which were a fine class of books. After a good day’s fun cheers were given for Rev. Budd and teachers.
