MR CARRUTHERS.

FETED AT SYDNEY. Press Association —Copyright. Received March 5, 9.25 a.m. Sydney, March 5. Mr Oarrnthers, late Premier of New South Wales, was entertained at a citizen’s banquet in the Town Hall, prior to his departure for England, to act as Commissioner at the Franco-British exhibition. He was presented with a valuable diamond pendant for his wife, in recognition of his servicesMo the State. The Governor, Admiral Sir Harry Rawson, who presided, said that he could not say whether his career in Australia as Governor had been best for him. An admiral could work his wicked will on anybody he pleased, but a Governor had to do nothing and to be very careful how he did it. Mr Oarrnthers complained that Federation was not working well because of the attempts of Government to invade the sphere of the States.
