CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MARTON. A meeting of the Council of the Marton Chamber of Commerce was held last evening. Mr Purnell (President) was in the chair and there was a full attendance of members. Messrs \Ym. Oldfield, A. Hayward. G. Bowles, Robt. A. Wilson and J. H. Miles were elected members of the Chamber. Wm. C. B. Collins was elected secretary. Mr John Stevens, M.P., %vrote offering his services in connection with the business of the Chamber, and forwarding a donation of £1 Is. The sub-committee appointed to inquire into the position of the proposal to extend the Borough boundaries, presented its report to the effect that a petition had been prepared but the necessary signatures had not been obtained. —The question of the delimitation of the extended boundaries was left in tbs'hands of Messrs Purnell, Brice and Richardson. Mr Purnell reported the result of an interview with the heads of the Railway Department in refereuce_ to plans of the Department as affecting Marton, and it was resolved to urge on the authorities, through the Member for the district , the advisability of boring for artesian water. It was decided to print rules of the Chamber and circulate among members.
