His Majesty King Edward congratulated General Willcocks on conducting the expedition with so much skill, and said he considered that the bravery and good conduct of the troops were beyond all praise. Calcutta, March 3. The Zakkas state that the swiftness of the British movements bewildered them, and the new 10pounder mountain gun, firing smokeless powder, demoralised them. The Afridis state that they are sick of fighting among themselves. There is some hope of arranging a scheme for terminating the intertribal quarrels. SET A THIEF TO CATCH A THIEF. Received,March 4, 8.5 a.m.^ Calcutta, March'3.™ The whole of the Afridi tribes will become responsible for the future good behaviour of the Zakkas “and promise to punish bad characters. They appeal to the British not to complete the ruin of the Zakkas for the sins of a badly behaved minority.
