THREE PARTY TAOTIOS. A DEADLOCK. Press Association —Copyright. Received March 8, 9.47 p.m. Brisbane, March 3. Parliament mot at noon. After the members had been sworn in, the Assembly proceeded to the election of a Speaker. Each party pnt forward a nominee.; This led to a deadlock, Labour and Opposition combining against the Government, the Government and Opposition against Labour, and Labour and the Government against the All three nominations [[were negatived, and the House adjourned till 3 o’clock to try and reach a compromise. On reassembling the Government and Labour each submitted a nominee. Both were again defeated by the former combinations. The House meets again later. The official opening of Parliament takes place to-morrow. Received March 4, 1.6 a.m. Brisbane, March 3. At a late hour the House had not reached a settlement as to the Speakership. THE PROBLEM SOLVED. Received March 4, 9.48 a.m. Brisbane, March 4. Eventually on the Premier’s motion Mr Leahey was elected Speaker, the Government and Opposition voting against Labour.
