FIRES.

Per Press Association. Hastins, February 21. A six-roomed cottage on Southland rcoad, owned by Patrick Heeney, and occupied by Frank Hay, was burned to the ground last night. Nothing was saved. Insurances were £l5O on the furniture in the Standard Office and £l5O on the building in the State Office. A fire occurred at Tombs & Grubbs’ new furniture factory at half-past nine this morning through upsetting a kerosene stovei Matters looked very serious for a time owing to the inflammable nature of the stock, but the staff succeeded in smothering the flames with wet sawdust. Very little damage was done. >
