THE DRUCE CASE.
PROSECUTION FOR PERJURY. Press Association. —Copyright. London, February 20. At the prosecution of ‘‘Miss’* Robinson for perjury,' Sir Ohas. Matthews, at Bow street, submitted further evidence confirming the cables as to Robinson’s antecedents. Documents showed that she received £SOO. from two insurance companies in settlement of losses stated at £2BOO through the burning of her residence at New Brighton, New Zealand. Correspondence and a cablegram produced showed that the Druce Company accepted her overtures to be a witness, paid her passage money to London, and promised her remuneration in the event of success. A mass of publications was seised at Robinson’s lodging relating to the Duke ofPortland, Welbeck, Dickens, and a ‘history of the Druce case. Passages were marked, also copies of letters purporting to be from the Duke of Portland to Robinson, indicating that she was his much-beloved mistress. Inspector Drew skated that ho found a draft of Robinson’s evidence stating that the Duke of Portland , gave her £3OOO in notes in 1*76, also other money. She has since confessed that the Dnke of Portland’s letters were her concoctions, and the evidence given in the box was false. She claimed to receive another letter purporting to be from Dckens, written to warn hbr to be tight-fisted and hard as a grindstone in order to save a resurrection of trouble.
