ALLEGED INCENDIARISM.

An attempt at lire raising at Rauigora on Monday night was. planned and carried out in an* elaborate way, and it was little short of a miracle that it resulted in failure. It was in a small outbuilding against a wall of * the Co-opera-tive Store Company’s store from where jshe incendiary carried oat his operations- The wall of [the building was saturated with kerosene from floor to roof, and in some paper, also covered with kerosene, against the wall, a bottle holding a piece of candle bad been placed. Round the bottle, half-way up the candle, was some rag, also well saturated with kerosene, and to 'prevent the light from canister with a few small perforait to admit air had been placed over the caudle. Fortunately, the canister, from some cause, tilted a little aud extinguished the candle iust before the flames reached the rag. A man was arrested in the bar of the Cafe de Paris Hotel this morning on suspicion of having deliberately caused the fire whir.lv was discovered at the rear of the hotel.
