RISE IN PRICE OF COAL.

The Westport Coal Company has notified Westport customers of increases in the price of coal on and after Ist March, 1 viz., screened coal from 17s to 18s per ton, unscreened coal from 13s to 14s, small coal from 10s to 10s 6d. Mr Dixon,- District Manager, informs the Association agent that the advance is due to the altered conditions of working at the mines increasing the cost of production. Ever since the Ministerial visit to Deuniaton Colliery operations have proceeded with pleasurable smooth--ness and the output is being splendidly maintained. The relations between the management and employees leave nothing to be desired.
