Edward Lyttelton, headmaster at Eton, permitted the Manchester unemployed to address the Eton boys in the College quadrangle. Gray, the leader, declared that blood was already being shed both in the East and West by hungry men who were demanding bread. “War in England is not far off,” he declared ; “ the stony-hearted plutocracy will provoke a revolution unless they are careful. ’ ’ McCutcheon, the second leader, after referring to Wat Tyler and Oliver Orourwell, declared : “We are making ready for a second Commonwealth. Are you ready for that?” The boys shouted “No.” Mr Lyttelton said the boys had heard some home truths and had better go and think about them. London, February 11. Despite King’s desire for privacy two Socialists tried to march a hundred unemployed to fthe Duke of Fife’s residence. The police dispersed the meeting.
