Twenty thousand whites at Brookhaven, Mississippi, overpowered a posse of deputy sheriffs and a company of State militia who were escorting to the court a negro accused of outrage on a respectable young white woman. Some shots were fired, injuring two of the crowd. The negro was hanged from a telegraph pole.
