At the Supreme Court James William Russell Hunter who assisted Cox, previously declared an habitual criminal, in breaking laud entering two Parnell residences, was sentenced to two years on each of the charges to be concurrent. Nicholas Albert Maddren for arson and breaking and entering at Whangaroi, was sentenced to |.’23<f years. ! James Bloomfield, aged 82, for breaking and entering was sentenced to 18 months. At the Supreme Court this moruiug.thrce persons were subjected to indeterminate sentences. They were John Lennon found guilty of forgery and uttering, who admitted having served 3 separate sentences from 18 months to 2 years, Jane Isidore Perry who some time ago, had a meteoric career as Lord Northeck.aud Charles Henry Gux, who was first sent to gaol ten years ago at nineteen years of age ami had since brief periods of liberty. He was uow r found guilty of breaking and [entering and theft and was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal. Alexander Henry McTavish, charged with shooting with intent at Herbert Suiter, second mate of the steamer Quito, aud attempted suicide, pleaded that he w r as so drunk, that he had no knowledge of what he was doing. The jury found him not guilty and he was discharged. Christchurch, February 10. The criminal session of the Supreme Court opened to-day before Judge Dennistou. On the calendar are four cases for trial and five for sentence. The cases for trial include that of Hans Wilson on a charge of murdering his wife at Christchurch. In charging the Grand Jury his Honor said the calendar was gratifying as indicating a comparatively trifling extent of serious crime. Benjamin. O’Connell was brought up for sentence on a charge of assault with intent to rob, and ad‘mitterl to probation for 12 mouths, his Honor adding a severe caution and ordering accused to abstain from liquor during probation.
