WEATHER INDICATIONS.
Wellington. February 0. Northerly strong winds to gale; glass fall slowlv after tweutv'hours. , " R. A. EDWIN. A Maori man, name unknown, was killed near Okato yesterday. He fell from a horse and was dragged along Die road, his foot having caught in the stirrup. His skull was fractured. The prisorfcr who escaped from New Plymouth gaol appears to be making towards Parihaka. He was seen near Oakura on Tuesday night. The warders and police are now searching in that direction. He has the reputation of being a rapid traveller as was proved on the former occasion of his escape from gaol. The effect of the dry weather during January is illustrated by the shrinkage of the output of Kaupokonui factory. In December 1906, 7362 cheese were manufactured, and in December 1907, 7881. Instead of a, corresponding increase in Januax-y which would have occurred under oi’dinary conditions there was a falling off of 654 cheeses, the number being 6646 as against 7300 in January 1907. The experience of Kaupokonui is also the experience of many' other factories in the province and the aggregate falling off must represent a Joss to the industry.'
