A SAD SUICIDE.

METHODSIT MINISTER ENDS HIS LIFE. Press Association —Copyright. Received February 3, 11.80 a.m. Sydney, February 3. The Rev. Thomas Bird, a Methodist Minister, committed suicide in King’s Part. He first swallowed strychnine and then shot himself. He was a witness before the Royal Commission on the Illingworth land scandals. His connection with the matter rose from his purchasing property from Illingworth on which the latter obtained a loan from the Treasury in the name of A. Dunning. There was no suggestion of dishonorable conduct on Bird’s part, but the notoriety raised by the evi~deird6~'|?reyed on his mind. He left a note “For a long time I have wished fe~-.die, I am so disappointed at my o'wa weakness —men do as they like with me ill money matters, and my conference since 1901 has always opposed me.”'
