BUSH FIRES.
> Press Association, ' ' Eketahuna, February 3. The southerly wind on Saturday freshened the fires in Hamua district and an anxious time was experienced by residents, who, in a number of instances, had their furniture removed from the houses to places of safety. A three-roomed cottage occupied by W. White alongside the hotel was destroyed. Little of the furniture was saved. Several cowsheds and outbuildings have been demolished and general damage done, and the township is in grave danger of destruction. Natives living on the bill opposite the hotel cleared their whares of everything and slept in the open-air all night. The fires have now subsided.
