ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. A drowning accident occurred at the Dunedin wharf, shortly after one o’clock this morning, the victim being a man about 45 years of age, whose body has not yet been identified. Deceased was shown on board the Oorinna by a wharf labourer about 10 o’clock last night. Early this morning the Union Coy’s night watchman heard a splash and he and another man threw deceased a rope. Deceased was pulled ashore, but was dead when a doctor arrived. Auckland, Last Night. A burning accident, which resulted fatally, occurred last evening. Mrs Elizabeth Black, 33, wife of a fiherman, broke a kerosene lamp and the oil ran on to the floor. She lit a candle and was wiping up the kerosene when the cloth came in contact with the lighted candle. Flame immediately shot up and enveloped the woman. Her husband went to her assistance, but the unfortunate woman was very severely burned before the flames were extinguished, and her husband’s hands were burned as were also those of two other men who assisted. Mrs Black was taken to the hospital, but died this morning. W T hangarei, February 3. A Maori named George Pu was instantly killed by.'a log rolling over him at Matapouri, owdng to a jack slipping.
