ANOTHER BATCH OF IMMIGRANTS.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Papanui, which arrived this morning from London, brought some hundred and sixty passengers in third class, to twenty seven of whom assisted passages had been granted. The latter include five farmers and three farm labourers, five domestics (none of whom are booked for Wellington), and the remainder are married women who have come out to join their husbands. The capital possessed by the assisted passengers averages £SO each. Mr A. O. S. Darby, the Immigration Officer, was early on the scene, attending to the new arrivals and tendering them advice. He states that the health of the passengers is ver y good, and only one was detained for farther examination. He is not likely to cause any trouble as he is possessed of a return ticket. The general health of the new arrivals, said Mr Darby, is, if anything, above that of the usual arrivals, and indeed the standard keeps steadily improving.
