WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD.
EVANSES BAY RECLAMATION HUNG UP. '; Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Some time ago the Wellington Harbour Board appointed a committee to secure information which would enable the members to reach a decision regarding the Evans’s Bay reclamation scheme. The details came before the board this afternoon at a special meeting. . The committee recommended that the board obtain the spoil required for reclamation purposes at the head of Evans’s Bay from land to be purchased, and for that purpose authorise the purchase of sections held by private owners. The board discussed the report in committee, and on resuming the chairman (Hon. T. K. Macdonald) intimated that the board had resolved: ‘ ‘ That in consequence of the excessive values placed upon their properties by owners of laud fronting) Evans’ Bay, the whole question of proceeding with reclamation at the head of the Bay be postponed. ” This decision was confirmed in open meeting.
