RANGITIKEI R.O. SUMMER MEETING. By “Turf.” The Rauigtikei Racing Club’s Summer Meeting takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, Ist and 2nd January, and is the main New Year attraction on this coast. The club received excellent acceptances, but the racing at Manawatu and Ashlmrst has left a number of the entrants sore on account of the firm going at those meetings, but still it is safe to prophesy that the club will have no difficulty in establishing a new record. Arrangements in connections with the meeting leave no necessary detail unfulfilled. This ,is the last time on which the club will race on its present course before starting on extended improvements ' for a new course and appointments ' on the same property, but infinitely better sites, a step that must meet with the entire approval of the public and horse-owners. Mr J. M. Nicol, the Marton caterer, will have charge of the luncheon department.* Messrs Neylor & Spriggens, wiiose names are well known among the sporting fraternity for their smart and business-like capacity for conducting the totalisator, will again have charge of the machines. The Marton Band will also be present to while away the spare time between the races. Coaches will leave Marton on both mornings of the races. SCOTT MEMORIAL HANDICAP, 6 furlongs. Ballarat, The Stake, Motoa, Catapult and Little Mary are likely to go to the post in this event, Buuyan and Toa Tula being considered unlikely starters. , Ballarat has been running very .consistently, whilst Motoa has an almost unbeaten record in this displays in the hack class. This is his first open engagement. MAIDEN HACK FLAT, 5 furlongs. Twenty-one have been nominated for the maiden flutter. Rangikura and Taitoko have been scratched. Windage ran third in Manawatu and the Euroclydou colt’s performance was a pleasing one. OHAKEA,HURDLE RACE, miles. There are nine acceptors in this event, and H. Hickey’s name figures as trainer for Black Reynard, Taur® and Kaipetipeti, A, Atwood for Killaruey and Oryx, and P. Coffey for Lyrist and Black Squall. A. Hall has Lull and J. Morris Hurimoana. Lull ran very disappointingly at Manawatu, but there is no doubting "that Handsome Jack’s son is a good one over sticks. Hurimoaua may find the distance more to his liking. CARNARVON HACK RACE, 6 furlongs. There are nine acceptors in this event —Catapult, Signor, Waicola, Raugipapa, Nukutihi, Kareroa, Bonnie Doon, Yosarni and Crucinella —but if Catapult starts in the Scott Memorial he will be a non-starter in favour of his stable mate Signor. Raugipapa had hard luck in missing both of his races at Manawatu and gallops very pleasingly. Nukutihi is a credit to his sire Day Star and has proved very slippery over short courses. RANGITIKEI CUP, miles. A splendid field remain in the Cup, the unlucky number of thirteen appearing on the card. Irish Rifle and Waitapu (9.0 each) are at the ;head of the list? Both are proved stayers. Whakawehi 8.8 and Tangimoana 8.6 are nicely weighted. Uhlando 7.11 and Nova 7.6 are partial to this distance, the former winning the Waverley and Waitara Cups and also the Christmas Handicap at New Plymouth. Nova’s last best performance was third to Tangimoana in the Woodville Cup’. Medallist 8.5, Splendid Idea 8,1, Asteroid 8.0, Roseal 7.8, Ballarat 7.5, Belario 6.9, and Tan San 6.7, comprise the field. It should be an interesting contest. RAILWAY HACK HURDLES, 1% miles. Fifteen have paid up for the hack hurdles. Oassiopea has incurred 171bs penalty for a double win at Taranaki, and Papatawa and Xavier lOlbs for wins at Manawatu and Asbhurst respectively. Taura, Kaipeitpeti and Lyrist claim previous engagements in the Ohakea Hurdles. If Te Arai and Kaipeitpeti start they will be bracketed on the machine. Paparaehi won a race at the above club’s spring meeting and Compass, Aorangi, Maidi, Mereshot, The Leader, Mussen and Oakley complete the list. MAKOWHAI WELTER, 7 furlongs. Half-a-dozen remain in the open welter —Medallist, The Stake, Whakawehi, Flotlila, Wind and Probability. The three former have previous engagements, but may find the small field more to their advantage. The Stake is on his own ground and is a fair horse over this course. Probability ran a sterling race in the Dominion Handicap at Ashhurst. PUKENUI WELTER HACK, 7 furlongs. Fourteen have cried content in this event, namely, Belario, Te Arai, Buoyant, Greenleaf, Speciosa, Houyhnhnm, Oarissima, Contour, Mere, shot, Sedgemoor, Happy Maid, Rawhetu, Windage and Mt. Cook. Greenleaf is an unlikely starter. Belario, Te Arai, Contour, Mereshot, Rawhetu and Windage are in previous races. Buoyant has been running very forward and is a useful sort of a horse. He had hard luck in meeting such a good hack as Ikon at Feilding, but made amends at Manawatu by winning the first hack race.
