KUMARA HOSPITAL.
AN INDIGNATION MEETING. Per Press Association. HokitikS,, December 24. A very large meeting was held at Eumara last evening, regarding, hospital matters, the Mayor presiding. The meeting carried motions protesting against the proposal foreshadowed by the Inspector-General to close the institution, also affirming the desirability of a deputation proceeding to Wellington to lay the position before Government and apply for a new wing and operating chamber. A vote of confidence was also carried in the management of the trustees. The meeting was addressed by Mr Michel, Mayor of Hokitika, who entered a strong protest against the proposed scheme of centralisation with regard to hospitals on the West Coast, also |by Mr Seddou, M.P., who gave an assurance from the Minister of Hospitals and the Premier that the local hospital would not be closed. Internal affairs at the hospital are still unsettled and further members of the staff have tendered their resignations.
