OUR VOLUNTEERS.
A practical Field-day for the purpose of manoeuvres is being arranged bv tlio officer commanding the 2nd Battalion (West Coast) Rifle Volunteers to take place on tlio 22nd January, 1908. The following companies will be present:—Royal Rifles (Marton), Palmerston North Rifles and Guards, Manchester Rifles (Feildiug), Wanganui Guards, Rifles and Highland Rifles, and tho Wanganui Irish Rifles. Tlio locality will be between Turakiua Valley and Halcombo, but this will bo finally fixed during tlio next few days when orders will bo issued as to entraining and detraining, and operations to all concerned. This will enable tlio corps to get in two daylight payment parades to count for capitation. Tho Manchester Rifles paraded for Government inspection last evening. Sergeant-Major Peacock was in command. There was a fair muster present and some useful drill was indulged iu. The triangle at the High School wsa used owing to the Drill Hall being engaged. Guo of the most popular nflo meetings is that of the Wanganui Rifle Association, taking place, as it does, during the Christmas holidays, it is always well patronised, and flue weather is assured. Tho new Bislcy bulls-eye at 200 yards will be used, and the whig guago sliding bar, British War Office pattern, will be allowed.
