MR M’NAB BANQUETED.
Per Pres Association Otautau, Last Night. The Hon. McNab, Minister of Lands, was entertained at a banquet at Otautau to-night. After declaring that a new sympathy would grow up with volunteering under the present regime Air McNab dealt with the Land Act, which he said, could not burn. He wished to disabuse his'hearers’ minds of any idea that freehold was done away with. The idea of the Government was to put more freehold laud on the marker during the next ten years than any previous Government has done iu 20 years. The estates available for closer settlement were : 1. Rewi, Auckland, 71,480 a to be open for selection January 28. The area for married applicants with families is 505 acres. 2. Ponrcro Settlement, Hawke’s Bay, 13210 a, open 22nd January; for families 9750 acres. In eaeli settlement a portion has been sot apart for preference to applicants unsuccessful iu previous ballots. The ordinary Crown lauds to bo opened within the next six mouths will bo: Auckland 39,000 acres, Hawke’s Bay 14,000 acres, Taranaki 30,000 acres, Marlborough 34.000. Total 114,000 acres. 3. Ranmata Settlement, Hawke’s Bay, 3590 a, open 3rd February. 4. Otekaike Settlement, Otago, 39,925 a, open 3rd February. Laud for settlement estates: Auckland 20,000 acres, Hawke’s Bay 10.000, Otago 3097. Total 39,097 acres, exclusive of estates previously mentioned.
