CONCILIATION BOARD.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, December 9. A meeting of the Conciliation Board was hold to-day to hoar a dispute between Otago and Southland Industrial Union of Workers and the Otago and Southland sheepowners. About 400 employers were cited. Mr \V. Scott, representing the employers,’said the demands of the Union were exorbitant, and, as the case would have to go before the .Arbitration Court, the employers did not propose to take part in the present proceedings. The Chairman (Mr Bathgate) suggested a short adjournment to see if an arrangement could be arrived at, but the Union preferred to go on. The principal demands of the men are:—Leading , shepherds of long wool flocks shall be paid not less than £9O per annum ; ordinary shepherds of long wool flocks not less than £BS ; leading shepherds in back country looking after merino flocks not less than £9O; ordinary shepherds in back country or shepherding merino flocks not less than £BO per annum. When mustorers are engaged to muster sheep for shearing, culling, dipping, or any other purpose they shall lie paid not less than 10s per day, and no time shall be taken off for wet weather or any lost time over which the men have no control.
