RIFLE SHOOTING.
COLONEL HOPETOWN’S VIEWS. Press Association. Auckland, December 10. Colonels Hopetowu and Cowan and Major Gonldsmith of the British rifle team are now in Auckland, and will spend 0 weeks touring in the Dominion. Colonel Hopetowu, who was commander of the British Rifle Team, interviewed 'said that in Australia ho found a great many more men hi comparison to the population with a knowledge of rifle shooting than at Home. Ho was also of opinion that the average Colonial shoots as well, if not better, than the Home rifleman. Ho regarded the Now Zealand team’s preformauce in the Empirhe Match as highly creditable and thought it probable New Zealanders found |the weather conditions at Raudwick as different from what they wore accustomed to as the Britishers did. Ho said that it was by sheer dogged, pertinacity right up to the last shot that ‘the Now Zealand team ran into second place.
