A CHINESE PROTEST.

Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 9. The Chinese of tho Dominion have sent a protest to tho Minister of Internal Affairs, tho Hon. Dr. Fiudlay, against tho Chinese Immigrants Amendment Act which has been reserved for the Royal assent, and which seeks to impose an education test in English in addition to the £IOO poll tax. The petitioners urge that no exemption is provided for Chinese residents cf New Zealand now visiting China who havo no facilities in tho districts they are visiting to learn to read English. Further, they urge that the Act is opposed to the well-recognised principles of international law, and ' s unfriendly to the Chinese Empire. They are asking His Majesty to refuse his assent to it.
